This past weekend brought a quick getaway to Eastern Tennessee to visit my grandparents.  We were headed to Rogersville, about an hour south of the Virginia/Tennessee line.  Rogersville is a quaint little town where everybody knows everybody and you’re easily pegged as an out-of-towner without an orange “UT” sticker on your car.

We’ve been visiting Rogersville for years and always enjoy the close proximity of the town to Kingsport and Morristown for shopping and dining as well as Pigeon Forge at Gatlinburg for bigger fun.  Rogersville itself has a small downtown area with some great antique and craft stores if you have time to mill around.

We had a great meal at the Green Tomato Grill in nearby Mooresburg, TN.  With homemade fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, house salads that included red and green tomatoes, and many other great choices, we will definitely be back.  The place was packed and service was excellent.  When you add in the reasonable prices, I can see why the business was booming.  Osso buco too, can you believe that for a small town in Tennessee?  The hubs is still talking about how good it was.  As a vegetarian, I was delighted by the plentiful choices that made my mouth water as I was deciding on my meal and by the red and green tomato alfredo I chose for my entree.

It was a super short trip, mainly to visit the fam, but if you’re ever passing through the area, give the Green Tomato Grill a try.  You won’t be disappointed.
